Box Score HONOLULU (December 30, 2015) – After enjoying a brief holiday respite, the Hawaii Pacific men's basketball went back to work on the hardwood and notched a resounding 70-46 victory over Viterbo (Wis.) University at Moanalua High School.
The Sharks (6-4 overall, 1-2 PacWest) were led by a game-high 17 points from
Connor Looney, while senior forward
Luke Hager barely missed out on a double-double effort via 14 points and nine rebounds.
Joel Feigler chipped in 12 points and also racked up a game-high four blocks to buoy the defense.
HPU relied on their reserves, who combined to outscore the opposition 35-11. The home team took a 41-20 halftime lead thanks in part to 13 first-half points from Looney. The Sharks clamped down defensively and held Viterbo without a point over the final 7:03 of the first frame. HPU outscored the opposition 14-0 over that span to establish the 21-point advantage at intermission.
The V-Hawks (5-9, 2-2 North Star Athletic Association) received 16 points from Jake Bamke.
The Sharks hit the road for a PacWest trip to face Fresno Pacific (Jan. 5, 7:30 p.m.), Notre Dame De Namur (Jan. 7, 7:30 p.m. in Belmont, Calif.) and Academy of Art (Jan. 9, 3:30 p.m. in San Francisco).
