Box Score HONOLULU (December 5, 2015) – The Hawaii Pacific men's basketball team nearly overcame a double-digit deficit midway through the second half, but eventually succumbed to hot-shooting Concordia University Irvine 76-66 in a PacWest Conference clash at Blaisdell Arena.
The Sharks (4-3, 1-1 PacWest) battled back from a 15-point deficit during a torrid second-half run, but in the end, could not stop the Eagles, who shot an efficient 53.7 percent from the field.
Chauncey Orr led HPU with 16 points, while
Connor Looney (15),
Jordan Martin (12) and
Luke Hager (10) also notched double-digit scoring efforts. Hager racked up a team-leading eight rebounds, while Martin turned in eight assists.
The Eagles (7-1, 2-0) featured a balanced scoring attack buoyed by 15 points apiece from Justin Davis and Stephen Grosey. Concordia shot 40 percent from behind the 3-point arc (4-for-10) and out-rebounded the Sharks, 36-27.
HPU has the week off before heading to Manoa to play the University of Hawaii on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center for an exhibition contest.
The Sharks then return to Pac-West action against cross-island conference foe BYU-Hawaii on Dec. 16 at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie. Opening tip is slated for 7:30 p.m.
