Box Score HONOLULU (January 14, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific men's basketball team put together a 13-0 run late in the second half to fend off a scrappy Dominican University (Calif.) squad, 65-48, in PacWest Conference action at Blaisdell Arena.
The victory marked the sixth consecutive win for the Sharks who also won their sixth game in seven tries at home.
The Sharks (10-4 overall, 5-2 PacWest) received 13 points apiece from senior
Luke Hager and
Jordan Martin, while Martin also led the squad with eight rebounds. Senior guard
Chauncey Orr chipped in 12 points and four rebounds.
Senior forward
Joel Feigler pulled down six rebounds and blocked a shot—his 17
th rejection in the last six games. The Las Vegas native and Central Arkansas transfer is averaging 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game thus far.
HPU established a comfortable 28-16 halftime advantage after the Sharks held the opposition to 22.7 percent (five-for-22) from the field. Dominican also committed 14 first-half turnovers, which led to 11 points for HPU in the first frame.
The Penguins (8-6, 4-3) received 14 points and two treys from Ryo Tawatari.
HPU returns to the Blaisdell to host conference foe Academy of Art University on Jan. 16 at 3 p.m.
