Box Score HONOLULU (January 26, 2016) – After facing a 20-point deficit late in the first half, the Hawaii Pacific men's basketball team battled back and eventually caught and surpassed Chaminade, 82-77, in a crucial PacWest Conference matchup at Moanalua High School.
The Sharks (13-5 overall, 8-3 PacWest) leaned on senior guard
Chauncey Orr, who caught fire offensively with a game-high 24 points. The Bowling Green transfer also dished out five assists and pulled down seven rebounds to spur the victory.
Senior
Luke Hager displayed poise and energy throughout the contest, and when faced with an aggressive Chaminade defensive front, responded by posting 20 points, 10 rebounds and a key block down the stretch.
Guard
Jordan Martin also energized HPU with 14 points, a team-high 12 rebounds and matched Orr with three 3-point buckets.
Forward
Joel Feigler scored 10 points, pulled down eight rebounds and blocked four shots—his 28
th rejection in the last 10 games. The Las Vegas native and Central Arkansas transfer is averaging 12.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game this season.
The Silverswords (7-11, 5-6) received 17 points from David Ware, who also nailed three treys, and 15 rebounds from Kuany Kuany.
Chaminade built a 20-point first-half lead, but HPU chipped away and narrowed the deficit to 44-34 at halftime. Ware accounted for 14 points in the first frame, while Hager was active in the paint to the tune of 12 first-half points.
HPU hits the road for a five-game away stretch that kicks off with a tilt in Utah with Dixie State on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
