Connor Looney poured in a game-high 15 points to help lead the Hawaii Pacific men's basketball team to a 73-49 victory over Academy of Art at Kezar Pavilion.
The victory marked the fifth consecutive win for the Sharks who also won their third straight away game to sweep the current California road trip. Looney connected on three treys and was one of five Sharks to score in double figures.
Senior forward
Joel Feigler, the reigning PacWest Defensive Player of the Week, collected 11 points, sank three-of-five 3-point shots, pulled down a team-high nine rebounds rebounds and collected three blocked shots—his 16
th rejection in the last five games. The Las Vegas native and Central Arkansas transfer is averaging 14.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game thus far.
The Sharks (9-4 overall, 4-2 PacWest) received 10 points and six rebounds apiece from seniors
Luke Hager and
Chauncey Orr, while Hager and
Jordan Martin both dished out four assists.
Elliott DeFreitas also contributed with 10 points and seven rebounds to help HPU out-rebound the opposition 44-30 and establish a 26-12 points-in-the-paint advantage.
HPU established a comfortable 40-21 halftime advantage thank is part to Looney's 13 first-half points.
The Urban Knights (4-9, 2-5) received 11 points apiece from Nick Cary and Jase Harrison.
HPU returns home to host conference foe Dominican (Calif.) University at the Neal Blaisdell Arena on Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The Sharks then host a rematch with the Urban Knights on Jan. 16, also at the Blaisdell Arena at 3:30 p.m.
