Box Score IRVINE, Calif. (February 4, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific men's basketball team was outscored 44-27 in the second half before eventually falling to PacWest Conference leader Concordia University Irvine 79-63 at CU Arena.
The Sharks (14-7 overall, 9-5 PacWest) received 16 points and four rebounds from senior guard
Chauncey Orr, while fellow guard
Jordan Martin added nine points and a team-best seven rebounds. Orr currently serves as the squad's scoring leader with 15 points per game.
Senior post player
Luke Hager added 10 points, five boards and a block, while forward
Elliott DeFreitas helped out on defense to the tune of two blocks. Sharks guards
Colfax Nordquist and
Connor Looney combined for 14 points and four steals.
Forward
Joel Feigler scored five points, pulled down two rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked a shot—his 34
th rejection in the last 13 games. The Las Vegas native and Central Arkansas transfer is averaging 11.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game this season.
The Eagles (20-3, 13-2) received 15 points apiece from Stephen Grosey and JT Roach. The home squad succeeded in part by employing a stifling defense, which limited HPU to 16.7 percent (three-of-18) from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Sharks took a 36-35 halftime on Orr's nifty Euro-step layup as the game clock expired. Orr and Hager scored eight points apiece in the first stanza and helped the visitors withstand a feverish Concordia rally, which erased a nine-point HPU lead midway through the period.
HPU continues its five-game away stretch with a matchup against Point Loma on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 4 p.m.
