PORTLAND, Ore. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women closed out the non-conference portion of their season Sunday falling to Saint Martin's 2-1 at Concordia Portland's Tuominen Yard.
The Sharks (0-4-1) fell behind early to the Saints (1-4-1), before pulling within a score in the final 10 minutes while attacking through the contest.
Saint Martin's outshot HPU 14-8, however they squads were even in the second half.
The Saints picked up the first goal of the game in the 31st minute when Lauren Allison stole the ball from a Shark defender and nailed a shot from the top of the 18-yard box.
The Saints 1-0 lead held through the half, but just 12 minutes into the second, SMU struck again. Hannah Frakes got a pass from Camryn Althauser and put it in from the left side from 15-yards out to make it 2-0.
The Sharks responded with additional pressure, getting four quality attempts in the final 15 minutes.
HPU scored in the 83rd minute as
Kai Hasegawa got a long pass down the left from
Sky Nanoo and directed a shot into the right side of the net from 12-yards out.
The Sharks got a final shot just before time was called, but
Sara Romo's game-tying attempt from the right wing was saved by Saints goalkeeper Ali Koehler to end the match.

Lauren Spencer recorded six saves on the day, while Koehler saved four for the Saints.
The Sharks remain on the mainland before they open Pacific West Conference play on Thursday against Holy Names University at 4 p.m. HST (7 p.m. PDT) at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward, Calif.
