SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Dominican University got a pair of second half goals from Michelle Li on its way to a 3-0 victory over Hawai'i Pacific University Saturday at Kennelly Field.
Dominican (1-2-3, 1-1-0) picked up its first win of the season, while the Sharks (1-5-1, 1-1-0) dropped their first Pacific West Conference game this season.
The Sharks kept the Penguins off the board until just before halftime when Lily Dubuc got her first goal of the season in the 40th minute.
HPU tried to answer on the kickoff, but the shot of
Madison Casey from Portland, Ore./Grant was stopped by Penguin goalkeeper Alyssa Ramos made the save.
Ramos stopped two more shots from the Sharks in the second half before Li scored her first goal of the half from a pass by Rachel Stowell in the 58th minute.
Li put the game away in the 74th minute when she recovered the ball for a breakaway down the middle and finished inside the 18-yard box.
HPU pressured forward in the final 15 minutes, collecting three more shots and a corner kick, but Ramos came up strong on all. In all, the Dominican keeper posted eight saves on the Sharks nine shots.
HPU junior keeper
Alannah John of Sacramento, Calif./Ponderosa tallied five saves on the 14 shots by the Penguins.
The Sharks are in action again next Saturday when they travel to the Big Island to meet Hawai'i-Hilo in a 3 p.m. contest.
