LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's soccer team dropped its second straight contest as the Sharks fell to PacWest Conference newcomer Biola 2-0 in league action at Al Barbour Field on Wednesday.
The Sharks (6-5-1, 2-4-1) were shutout for the second time in as many games, while the Eagles (7-2-1, 3-2-1) improved to 5-0 at home.
The Eagles scored in the eighth minute to open the contest, then added an insurance goal in the 67th minute as they kept HPU off the scoreboard.
Biola's Paula-Marie Labate posted her fourth goal of the season after Ashley Ramirez sent a pass to her at the top corner of the 18-yard box. Labate made one fake, then rifled it in for the 1-0 advantage.
That score held until the 67th minute. That's when Colie Martin crossed the ball from the left side to the top of the box and Samantha Verduzco's kick to the far post beat HPU goalkeeper
Lauren Spencer to make it 2-0.
The Sharks, who had four of their 10 shots on goal, had only one shot after the second goal.
Spencer, the junior from Oxford, Mich./Oxford, recorded eight saves on the 22 Biola shots and allowed two goals.
BU's Christina Rodriguez posted four saves on the Sharks 10 shots.
The game was the first of three California contests. HPU continues the road swing by facing Azusa Pacific on Saturday at 2 p.m. HST (5 p.m. PDT).
