Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

HPU Falls To Dominican 2-1

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University's men's soccer team pushed Notre Dame de Namur to the limit on Saturday afternoon at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex, but the Argonauts held on for a 2-1 PacWest Conference win over the Sharks.

The Sharks (4-8-2, 2-7-1) extended their losing streak to four straight. The Argos (12-1-2, 8-1-1) won their sixth straight and haven't lost in the month of October.

NDNU jumped out to a 2-0 lead before HPU made a comeback.

The Argos posted their first score just before halftime in the 45th minute when Micah Tateishi sent a cross from the left side to the top of the box where a waiting Esteban Berumen blasted it into the net for a 1-0 Argo lead and Berumen's 13th goal of the season.

In the second half, the Argos added a second goal as Naia Graham took a pass near midfield from the end line, dribbled up field and juked a defender, then juked HPU goal keeper Daniel Arnoll and dropped an unhindered shot from the right to lead 2-0.

But the Sharks got an urgency about the strike to answer six minutes later in the 71st minute on Mario Garcia's second goal of the season. Garcia, a sophomore from Leganes, Spain, collected a broken pass on the left side, dribbled up and made a cut fake before shooting past Argo keeper Javier Santana to make it 2-1.

HPU's Arnoll, a senior from Verrieres-le-Buisson, France, recorded five saves and two goals allowed against the 14 NDNU shots. The Argos Santana chalked up four saves and the goal allowed versus nine shot attempts.

The Sharks are back in action again on Wednesday afternoon at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex, as they host Dominican (Calif.). Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
