Dixie State snags Sharks 2-1 in 2 OT

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Hawai'i Pacific University fell in double overtime Tuesday as Dixie State's Gabby Medina scored in the 103rd minute to lead the Trailblazers to a 2-1 PacWest Conference victory at Legend Solar Stadium.

The Sharks (2-4-1, 0-3) scored in the 84th minute to send the game to overtime, while the Trailblazers (7-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten atop the PacWest Standings.

Medina capped a double pass with a shot to the left corner of the goal to give Dixie State the golden goal win.

HPU outshot the Trailblazers 17-8, with eight shots on goal. DSU placed three shots on goal, with HPU goalkeeper Daniel Arnoll saving one. Dixie State's Zach Nielson chalked up seven saves.

After a scoreless first half, Dixie State got on the board first in the 61st minute on Bryan Baugh's first goal of the season off Angel Estrada's corner kick. Estrada sent the ball to Ather Dawood who touched it to Baugh for the power shot.

The Sharks continued to pelt Nielson and got one into the back of the net in the 84th minute when senior Mario Garcia of Leganes, Spain scored the equalizer. Garcia got the feed from freshman Jordan Coxall from Chester, England on a strong cross across the box for a blast into an open net.

The Trailblazers and Sharks played through the first overtime scoreless, but on the only shot of the second extra frame, Media got a feed the right wing and sent it to the back of the net.

The Sharks closed their two-week, five-match road trip with the loss and will return home to face Holy Names on Saturday. Kickoff at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex Field 5 is slated for 3 p.m.
