SEASIDE, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men completed their non-conference portion of their schedule on Monday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay at the Otter Sports Complex.
The Sharks (2-4, 0-1 PacWest) outshot the Otters (3-5, 1-3 CCAA) 10-5, but could not get on the board. CSUMB's only two shots on goal were scores.
Antonio Ordonez was in on both goals for the Otters, collecting a goal and an assist.
The match was even through the first 41 minutes before Monterey Bay took the lead in the 42nd minute on Steve Lopez' first goal of the season on a give-and-go from Ordonez that found the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Sharks pressured the entire second half, but CSUMB caught a break for the clinching goal in the 87th minute. After saving a shot from HPU junior
Jair Espinoza of San Miguel Petapa, Guatemala, Otter goalkeeper Trevor Peterson sent the ball out to Walmer Martinez who sent it on with a through ball to Ordonez for the score.

Chandler Schur of Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg Career Magnet faced five shots with no saves, while the Otters Trevor Peterson posted four saves after coming in at halftime. Starter Daniel Lomeli did not record a save in 45 minutes.
It was an unlucky day for the Sharks who had not one, but two shot beat Lomeli, but saved by a defender. The first came in the 32nd minute when a shot from freshman
Reece Montgomery of Dromore, Northern Ireland was saved by defenseman Ardain Ortiz. Then in the 39th minute a shot from freshman
Jaden Slusiewicz of Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel was stopped by midfielder Juan Alejandre.
The Sharks start a three-game California trip with the loss. HPU returns to PacWest Conference play on Friday against Notre Dame de Namur at Koret Field in Belmont, Calif. The kickoff is set for 9 a.m. HST (Noon PDT).
