Sharks Clipped By PacWest Leading Point Loma 1-0

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University allowed a goal off a corner kick in the 51st minute and that was all Point Loma needed for a 1-0 PacWest Conference win on Thursday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The Sharks (4-5-4, 2-2-2) lost for the third time in six games decided by a goal this season. The Sea Lions (11-1-1, 6-0-1), ranked sixth in the Division II West Region, maintained their lead in the PacWest Conference with the win.

The only goal of the contest came when the Sea Lions got a corner kick in the 51st minute. After the corner pass from Bella Diaz, Abbi Swanson took the ball in and scored her second goal of the year from the far left side of the field.

It was the only blemish on for senior goalkeeper Lauren Spencer of Oxford, Mich./Oxford, who tallied six saves on the 13 shots by PLNU.

Sea Lions goalkeeper Emma Hinson kept a perfect sheet, with five saves off the Sharks 13 shots in addition to her teammates clearing the ball behind her for a team save in the fifth minute of action.

The Sharks now hit the road for four games, starting with Saturday's contest on the Big Island against Hawai'i Hilo. The contest is slated for 3 p.m., following the men's game, at the Kamehameha Schools field in Keaau.
