Sharks Maul Urban Knights 4-0

SAN FRANCISCO –  Hawai'i Pacific University chalked up four second half goals in route to  a 4-0 PacWest Conference win over Academy of Art on Saturday afternoon at the CCSF Soccer Field.

The Sharks (6-8, 4-5) second half explosion crushed the Urban Knights (2-12-1, 1-7-1) in the second game of HPU's northern California road trip.

Following the scoreless first half, HPU junior Jair Espinoza of San Miguel Petapa, Guatemala/CSD Municipal opened the second with a gorgeous goal in the 46th minute from a perfect pass by freshman midfielder Jaden Slusiweicz of Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel. Then in the 66th minute, Espinoza took a shot off an APU yellow-card foul which was saved by the keeper, but senior Tom Karshuening of Satrup, Germany/Gymnasium Walsrode followed in for a rebound goal to put the Sharks up 2-0.

Karshuening and Espinoza weren't done yet. The pair struck again in the 72nd minute with Espinoza taking a high shot which was blocked by the keeper, but Karshuening was again positioned perfectly for the rebound goal to the open net for goal number three of the season.

The last Shark goal came in the 79th minute with a gorgeous lob cross from senior Christian Porras of Rockville, Md./Rockville  to junior Kyle Rivers of Spanaway, Wash./Spanaway Lake for a volley into the back netting.

Junior goalkeeper Chandler Schur of Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg Career Magnet School recorded two saves on nine Urban Knight shots. He recorded his second shutout of the season and third of his career.

ARTU faced 18 HPU shots with goalkeeper Kris Jensson grabbing 6 saves on the day.

The Sharks have their final road contest of the season on Tuesday at Fresno Pacific. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. HST (5 p.m. PDT) at Ramierez Field.
