Aloha 'Ohana,
You may have heard that on Tuesday of last week, HPU student
Emil Isovic collapsed during a basketball game against Southern Nazarene. While Emil received the best care possible at Straub Medical Center, he unfortunately did not regain consciousness. We are deeply saddened to share that late Wednesday afternoon, Emil passed away. His family, friends, teammates and coaches were at his side. He was 21 years old.
We all mourn the loss of Emil, who was both a gifted athlete and a wonderful friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents, Nedzad and Sanela, his brother Dino, and everyone who knew and loved him.
A student emergency assistance fund has been set up to support Emil's family in their time of need. If you would like to contribute,Â
please click here.
A great many of you knew Emil through classes, the basketball court, and interactions on campus. Anyone who would like to speak with a counselor is encouraged to contact Counseling and Behavioral Health (808-687-7076 orÂ
counseling@hpu.edu) to learn about the services we offer for grief and recovery.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Emil's family and to all of you. There aren't words to express how much Emil will be missed. May we find comfort in one another's company and solace in the memories of a young man who made an unforgettable impression on our hearts.
With sincere aloha,
Sam Moku
Vice President of University Relations and Director of Athletics
