OAKLAND, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University was swept twice in the first day of the Division II West Region Showcase hosted by Holy Names University.
The Sharks (0-4) lost to Stanislaus State (5-0) 25-20, 25-21 and 25-19 to start the day, then fell to Cal Poly Pamona (5-1) 25-14, 28-26, 25-12 to close the day.
HPU hit .108 against Stanislaus State, paced by sophomore Camryn Collie of El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge with 10 kills. Freshman
Nicole Ferris of Woodstock, Ga./Etowah added six kills and a block.
Stan State hit .232 with 8.0 team blocks led by Yisel Perez with nine kills and four blocks, with Ramey Gardner adding eight kills.
Against Cal Poly Pomona, the Sharks collected six team blocks, but hit just .047. Junior
Perla Escobar of Calexico, Calif./Calexico chalked up seven kills as Ferris and Collie each chipped in four kills. Senior
Carson Pyle of Houston, Texas/Memorial led the Sharks with three blocks.
CPP hit .241 against the Sharks with six team blocks, with Kristen Hamlin posting 12 kills and four blocks and Jenna Goldsberry added nine kills and two blocks.
The Sharks have two matches in the Showcase on Saturday as they face Humboldt State at 7:45 a.m. HST and Western Oregon at 12:15 p.m. HST to close their play in the classic.
