No. 24 Western Washington Edges Sharks 1-0

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – No. 24 Western Washington converted a corner kick goal in the 85th minute to hand Hawai'i Pacific University a 1-0 loss Saturday night in non-conference action at Harrington Field.
 
The Sharks (1-2) had the 24th ranked Vikings (4-2) on the ropes by outshooting them 19-9, but could not get a shot into the back of the net.
 
The Vikings got the only score of the game in the 85th minute as WWU's Jeremiah Lee headed in George Cholewa's corner kick from three yards away.
 
The Sharks got off three more shots that were blocked in the final four minutes of action.
 
HPU fired 19 shots against the Vikings, with goalkeeper Brandon Wolter recording three saves.
 
HPU junior goalkeeper Chandler Schur of Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg Career Magnet posted four saves against the nine Viking shots with the goal allowed from the corner.
 
The Sharks couldn't take advantage of playing a man up over WWU for 78 minutes, as the Vikings Christian Rotter was sent off with a red card in the 12th minute of action.
 
HPU returns from the mainland to play again on Thursday afternoon at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park in a non-conference match against Hawai'i Hilo. Kickoff is set for 12:30 and is the first game of a men's/women's doubleheader.
