Sharks Sweep Holy Names 3-0

HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University recorded its first sweep of the season as HPU defeated Holy Names in straight sets on Friday evening in PacWest Conference at James Castle Gym at St. Andrew's Priory.
 
The Sharks (4-10, 3-5) ripped the Hawks (3-11, 2-6) 25-20, 25-15, 25-17.
 
The Sharks hit .174 for the match, but collected 10.0 team blocks in the three set match. HNU recorded a -.033 attack percentage with just 3.0 team blocks.
 
The Sharks trailed only once in the match that saw seven ties in the three sets.
 
The Sharks were paced by sophomore Camryn Collie of El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge who double-doubled with a match-high 10 kills to go with 11 digs. Junior Perla Escobar of Calexico, Calif./Calexico posted six kills with a .364 attack percentage, while senior Carson Pyle of Houston, Texas/Memorial added five kills and matched Escobar with a .364 attack. Pyle and freshman Nicole Ferris of Woodstock, Ga./Etowah each notched four blocks.
 
Holy Names got six kills from Sierra Allen with two blocks, and Tiana Heffernan added five kills.
 
HPU used a 6-2 run to break a 5-all first set tie and never looked back. The Sharks expanded their lead with a 5-0 run late capped by a Collie kill and won the set 25-20 on an attack error by Heffernan.
 
The second set was all HPU. The Sharks opened with a 5-1 run and capped the set with an Escobar service ace for the 25-15 win.
 
The third set, where HPU used 13 players, found HPU starting on a 4-1 run, but the Hawks rallied with a 7-3 run to take their first lead of the match at 10-9. HNU continued to hold a lead before the Sharks went on an 8-2 run to retake the lead. Following a kill from Pyle, HPU won the set and the match on an attack error by HNU's Sierra Allen to win the match 3-0 in just one hour, 24 minutes.
 
The Sharks are back in action on Sunday when they host Academy of Art in PacWest play. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at St. Andrew's Priory.
