Chaminade Upset Sharks 1-0

HONOLULU – Chaminade handed Hawai'i Pacific University its first PacWest Conference loss of the season, stunning the Sharks 1-0 at Saint Louis Field on Saturday.

The Sharks (4-3-1, 2-1) had beaten the Silverswords (4-2, 2-0) 4-0 in a non-conference match in September, but the Swords had a hold goalkeeper this time.

HPU pelted the Swords with 14 shots on Saturday, but Michael Stafford was up to the test, recording six saves.

CUH fired 10 shots at junior goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead, who collected four saves but allowed the fateful goal.

The Sharks defense did not allow Chaminade a shot in the first half, but the Swords fired all 10 of their attempts in the second 45 minutes.

The game's only goal came in the 64th minute when Jamin Fonseca crossed a pass to the center of the box for Noah Mokulehua who one-timed it into the left top of the net.

HPU had five shots after the score, but only two were on goal, a both saved by Stafford.

HPU returns home to the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Wednesday when the Sharks host Fresno Pacific in PacWest Conference play. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., following the HPU-FPU women's game.
