Sharks Fall 2-1 to Biola in Overtime

LA MIRADA, Calif. – A golden goal in overtime spelled doom for the Hawai'i Pacific University men as Biola grabbed a 2-1 PacWest Conference victory Monday night at Al Barbour Field.

The Sharks (4-6-2, 2-4-1) struck early in the game, and despite fairly even shots, the Eagles (5-5-3, 3-1-2) were able to come out on top in extra time.

BU's Jonathan Serrano collected the game winner in the 95th minute when Hunter Finnegan made an incredible throw-in from the left side to the back door for an open shot on the back post and the 2-1 win.

HPU opened the contest with a goal in the 14th minute. Junior Makana Srivongsana of Honolulu/Kaiser was set up by senior Jair Espinoza of San Miguel Petapa, Guatemala / CSD Municipal with a beautiful pass for Srivongsana to hammer it to the lower right corner for a 1-0 lead.

Biola was quick to answer back with their own goal in the 32nd minute on a scrum recovery in front of HPU's goal by Finnegan who sent it to Jack MacDonald who kicked it in with his heel to tie the game at 1-1.

Junior goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead took the loss facing 15 shots with five saves on the day. He moves to 4-5-1 on the season.

Biola's JD Gunn picked up his fourth win of the season facing 11 shots with six saves.

The Sharks remain in southern California to meet up with Concordia Irvine for a Halloween showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. HST (3:30 p.m. PDT) at Eagles Field.
