IRVINE, Calif. – For the second straight game, a golden goal in overtime spelled doom for the Hawai'i Pacific University men as Concordia Irvine overcame a wild last seven minutes of regulation to score with nine seconds left in the first overtime for a 3-2 PacWest Conference win at Eagles Field.

The Sharks (4-7-2, 2-5-1) got a pair of goals from sophomore
Makana Srivongsana of Honolulu/Kaiser in the last seven minutes to knot the contest, only to have the Eagles (6-6, 4-2) collect the game winner in extra action.

CUI got two goals in the first half as Vincente Flores scored the first in the 34th minute and Michael Oakson got the second in the 45th minute, just 33 seconds before halftime for the 2-0 lead.

The match remained even until just under eight minutes remained.

The Sharks got on the board in the 83rd minute when senior
Kota Endo of Chiba, Japan sent a free kick to Srivongsana who one-timed it to pull HPU within a goal at 2-1.

Then in the 90th minute another CUI foul gave HPU a chance. Junior
Ryo Hirayama of Fukuoka, Japan got the ball to Srivongsana who buried it in the net with 17 seconds to play for his third goal of the season and tie the contest at 2-2.

The Sharks did not get a shot off in the overtime period and when Srivongsana was called for a foul in the 100th minute, time was suspended to allow for the free kick with 15 seconds to go. Alfonso Quezada put the ball in the box and Oakson knocked it from a swarming defense over to Caley Powers who ended the game with nine second left in the extra period.

Sophomore goalkeeper
Max Austli of Gothenburg, Sweden (0-2-1) returned to the box on Thursday, recording two saves against 14 shots and three goals allowed.

The Eagles Mac Hutchins (1-1) had four saves against 13 HPU shots with the two goals allowed.

The Sharks close their four-game southern California trip on Saturday when they visit San Diego to face Point Loma. Kickoff at the PLNU Soccer Field is set for 11 a.m. HST (2 p.m. PDT).
