LA MIRADA, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University suffered their fourth loss of the season as Biola picked up a 2-0 win in PacWest Conference action on Monday at Al Barbour Field.
The Sharks (7-5-1, 4-3-0) were down one goal early to the Eagles (9-3, 6-0), but were outshot 22-7 by the end of the contest.
BU peppered the HPU senior goalkeeper
Gretchen Berkey of Grants Pass, Ore./Grants Pass early with four shots in a minute's span. Berkey was able to save two of them, the defense blocked a third, but the Eagles found the back of the net on the fourth attempt in the 10th minute.
HPU picked up the pace slightly in the second half with five of their seven shots but were no match for the conference leading Eagles. They added to their lead with another goal in the 72nd minute with a difficult pass to the right side for an open shot on the right side.
Berkey (1-1-1) played in her fifth contest of the season, but took the loss facing 22 shots with 12 saves.
The Eagle's keeper Christina Rodriguez faced seven HPU shots with four saves and the shutout bringing her to 9-2 on the season
The Sharks head over to Concordia Irvine for their third game of the southern California road trip on Thursday. Kick-off is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. HST (1 p.m. PDT).
