SAN DIEGO – Hawai'i Pacific University closed their southern California trip with a 2-0 PacWest Conference loss to Point Loma Saturday afternoon at the PLNU Soccer Field.
The Sharks (4-8-2, 2-6-1) suffered their fifth straight loss, while the Sea Lions (11-4-1, 7-1-1) maintain their PacWest Conference lead by points over Azusa Pacific.
Point Loma got on the board in the 18th minute when David Achaerandio took a pass from Jorge Navarro on the left side and blasted a narrow-angle diagonal in the goal to take the 1-0 lead.
The defensive battle continued with both teams pressing until just before the final horn.
The Sea Lions scored with 12 seconds to play when Teague Anderson netted the ball off an assist by Achaerandio to give PLNU the 2-0 win.
HPU junior goalkeeper
Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead (4-6-1) recorded three saves with the two goals scored against the 14 Point Loma shots.
Sea Lions keeper Connor McEwen (11-4-1) notched the shutout, collecting three saves against the 11 HPU shots.
The Sharks return home for a brief break before host their final two games of the season. HPU hosts Academy of Art on Veterans' Day, Monday, Nov. 11, for a 7 p.m. contest at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
