Sharks Drop Fourth In 2-0 Loss To Point Loma

SAN DIEGO – Hawai'i Pacific University allowed two goals in eight minutes of playing time to fall to Point Loma 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in PacWest Conference play at the PLNU Soccer Field.

The Sharks (7-7-1, 4-5-0) fell for the fourth straight game, while the Sea Lions (11-4-1, 8-0-1) remain a half-game out of the PacWest lead with their fourth straight win and their unbeaten string to nine straight.

HPU held PLNU scoreless until the 39th minute when the Sea Lions scored off a deflected save. Abbey Teagle recovered the saved shot of Makenna Herrero and tucked it into the bottom right corner to put the Sea Lions up 1-0.

Just after the second half start, PLNU took advantage of a sideline opening as Julia Glaser picked up her 10th goal of the season after a cross by Abbey Teagle for the near post chip for the 2-0 lead in the 47th minute.

Neither squad would score again.

HPU senior goalkeeper Gretchen Berkey (1-3-1) of Grants Pass, Ore./Grants Pass faced a barrage of 19 shots from the Sea Lions, recording eight saves with the two goals allowed.

HPU attempted six shots against PLNU, with Emma Hinson chalking up four saves.

The Sharks return to Honolulu for a break before hosting their final two contests of the season at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. HPU begins the set against Academy of Art on Monday, Nov. 11, at 4:30 p.m.
