Yoshioka's Goal Leads Sharks to 3-2 Win at Central Washington

Editor's Note: Central Washington misidentified the first goal in the contest. This story has been edited to reflect the scoring change.

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Hawai'i Pacific University freshman Kayli Ann Yoshioka scored in the 84th minute and senior Ebony Madrid posted a pair of goals to give the Sharks a 3-2 victory in non-conference action on Monday night at Tomlinson Stadium.

The Sharks (1-1) came from behind twice to beat the Wildcats (2-3) in HPU's first road game of the season.

The HPU defense withstood the attack of CWU and made the most of its second half shots, scoring twice on just four shots.

Yoshioka, a freshman from Honolulu/Kaiser, picked up her first collegiate goal in getting the game-winner. Yoshioka was fed by Madrid to break the 2-2 tie with just under seven minutes to play.

Madrid, of Porterville, Calif./Ramstein, scored both of HPU's goals in the contest. She tied the game at 1-all in the 12th minute off a restart free kick from freshman Callie Rheaume of Camas, Wash./Camas. Then she tied the match again in the 55th minute with her third goal of the season on a feed from freshman Katie Pothier from Ewa Beach, Hawai'i/Campbell.

CWU posted goals from Olivia Sloan in the 10th minute, and retook the lead in the 51st minute on an unassisted goal by Peyton Vogel.

The Sharks got a strong game from sophomore goal keeper Marissa Froio of Simi Valley, Calif./Royal. Froio faced 18 Central Washington shots, recording seven saves with two goals allowed.

HPU fired 12 shots, six on goal, against CWU's Megan Fox who recorded two saves and three goals allowed. The Wildcats recorded one team save.

The Sharks have two more games on this trip to the Pacific Northwest. HPU visits Western Oregon in Monmouth on Thursday at Noon HST (3 p.m. PDT) and closes the trip on Saturday in Lacey, Wash., at Saint Martin's at 10 a.m. HST (1 p.m. PDT).
