Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Western Oregon Beats Sharks 1-0

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Hawai'i Pacific University allowed a goal in the 13th minute and that was all that was needed as Western Oregon defeated HPU 1-0 at the WOU Soccer Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Sharks (1-2) suffered their first shutout of the season as the Wolves (2-2-1) evened their record with the win.

The only goal in the game came in the 13th minute as WOU's Isabelle Creighton collected a through pass from Alyssa Tomasini who fought off a challenge from HPU goal keeper Marissa Froio to score.

The rest of the contest was a defensive battle.

Froio, a sophomore of Simi Valley, Calif./Royal, faced 13 shots by the Wolves and collected two saves with the goal allowed.

WOU keeper Alex Qualls tallied three saves on the seven HPU shots attempted.

HPU had two shots in the first half, then posted five in the second half. All three shots on goal by HPU came in the second half, including a blast from senior Ebony Madrid of Porterville, Calif./Ramstein in the 87th minute that was saved by Qualls.

After attempting nine shots in the first half, WOU fired just four times in the second half with just two of those on goal.

Hawai'i Pacific concludes its three-game tour of the Pacific Northwest on Saturday when the Sharks visit Lacey, Wash., to face Saint Martin's.  Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. HST (1 p.m. PDT).
