Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lights Cause Early End In Sharks-Eagles Tie

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University and Concordia Irvine were locked in a scoreless contest when a light failure caused an early end at the 75:03 mark. The PacWest Conference match at the Waipio Peninisula Soccer Stadium was declared a 0-0 tie.

The Sharks (3-4-2, 1-0-2) remained unbeaten in PacWest play as did the Eagles (4-4-2, 2-0-1).

The teams were playing even when two of the eight light towers at the stadium that affected a quarter of the playing surface went out with 14:57 remaining on the stadium clock. After discussion by the coaches about player safety in the dark area of the field, the game officials waited 15 minutes until stadium officials said nothing could be done to restore the lights before declaring the contest over. Because the game had passed the 70 minute mark, NCAA rules made the contest official.

Senior goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead recorded two saves in facing 10 Eagle shots.

CUI goalkeeper Andre Flores also chalked up two saves against the eight shots by the Sharks.

HPU will meet Biola in PacWest Conference action on Monday. The match at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
