WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University snapped Point Loma's seven-game winning streak with a 2-1 PacWest Conference victory on Senior Night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium..
 
The Sharks (4-5-2, 2-1-2) handed the Sea Lions (7-3-2, 4-1) their first PacWest loss of the season and knocked the Sea Lions from the lead in the conference race.
 
The Sharks got on the board first in the 10th minute when graduate student Gerrit Arzberger of Munich, Germany/Therese von Bayern scored a goal on a direct kick shot that glanced off a defender into the net for a 1-0 lead.
 
Point Loma evened the match in the 74th minute on Townsend Meyer's goal after a scrum in front of the net bounded out for an open shot.
 
But it was sophomore Jourdan Furukawa of Honolulu/Bellevue, Wash. Newport who put the Sharks on top to stay. Furukawa got a shot off a double pass from junior Yuya Yamamoto of Osaka, Japan/Osaka Toin and senior Reece Montgomery of Dromore, Northern Ireland/Dromore in the 80th minute to give HPU the 2-1 lead.
 
Sharks senior goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead tallied seven saves against the 17 shots by PLNU.
 
Sea Lions keeper Seth Ketterer posted four saves against Sharks 13 shots.
 
HPU closes the season with five road games, starting with a Northern California trip on Tuesday at Dominican. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. HST (3:30 p.m. PDT).
