Sharks Triumphh 1-0 Over Penguins

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University freshman Gabriel "Gabo" Stauring scored his first collegiate goal in the 61st minute to lead HPU to a 1-0 PacWest Conference victory on Monday afternoon at Kennelly Field.

The Sharks (5-5-2, 3-1-2) started their Northern California road trip by downing the Penguins (6-2-2, 1-2-1).

The game was scoreless until the 61st minute when the Sharks struck.

Sophomore Sebastain Navarro of Menifee, Calif./Perris found an opening and sent the ball to Stauring, from Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union in the box to go one-on-one with the keeper. Stauring chipped the ball over the diving goalkeeper for the only score in the contest.

The Sharks defense made the lead stick as well. Senior goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead notched his fifth shutout of the season, posting seven saves against the 15 Penguin shots. His final save came in the final two minutes to keep the Sharks on top.

DUC keeper Ruben Raygoza tallied three saves and the goal allowed in facing eight shots by the Sharks.
