SAN FRANCISCO – Hawai'i Pacific University scored twice in the first half to defeat Academy of Art 2-0 in PacWest Conference play on Sunday afternoon at CCSF Soccer Field.
The Sharks (7-5-2, 5-1-2) now have a four-match winning streak and their fifth win in seven matches with the win over the Urban Knights (0-12-1, 0-8).
HPU jumped on the board in the 17th minute as sophomore
Dennis Dinyer of Hamburg, Germany dribbled into the box and made a centering pass to an open Sebastain Navarro. The sophomore from Minifee, Calif./Perris blasted his shot to the top right shelf for the 1-0 lead.
The Sharks defense collected the second goal in the 40th minute when freshman defender
Steven Alvizar of Los Angeles, Calif./Cathedral collected a misplayed clearance by the Knights and got a tap in goal for the 2-0 advantage.
HPU racked up 23 shots against ART U, while the Urban Knights managed 11.
Senior goalkeeper
Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead notched his seventh shutout of the season, recording four saves in going the distance.
ART U keeper Omer Tal chalked up six saves with the two goals allowed against the 23 HPU shots.
HPU concludes their Northern California mainland trip on Tuesday as the Sharks visit Fresno Pacific. Kickoff at Ramirez Field is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. HST (7:30 p.m. PDT).
