HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University opened a PacWest Conference home stand with a straight sets loss to Concordia Irvine on Wednesday night at The Shark Tank.
The Sharks (2-13, 1-6) fell to the Eagles (9-3, 4-1) 9-25, 21-25, 15-25.
The Sharks hit just .070 for the match, with 29 total kills and 2.0 team blocks. The Eagles hit a strong .326 with 34 kills and 6.0 team blocks.
Sophomore
Ella Dotson of Tucson, Ariz./Marana led the Sharks with eight kills and a .381 hitting percentage. Senior
Nicole Ferris of Woodstock, Ga./Etowah posted seven kills for HPU.
CUI got a double-double from Kirra Schulz who led the Eagles with 11 kills, a .500 hitting percentage and 10 digs. Kennedy Farley chalked up six kills with three blocks. Jalyssa Sanchez also posted three blocks, while Daniela Poles tallied six kills.
The Sharks never held a lead in the first and third set losses, but overcame a six-point deficit in the second set to take a 19-17 lead. CUI came back with three straight points to reclaim the lead a 20-19. HPU and CUI tied at 20 and 21 before the Eagles won the last four points of the second set.
The Sharks continue the home stand on Friday evening, when the host Biola in a 7 p.m. match at The Shark Tank.
