IRVINE, Calif. –Hawai'i Pacific University goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinsky was honored as the PacWest Conference Men's Soccer Defender of the Week for his outstanding play this past week.
Zielinsky, a 6-3 senior from Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead, posted three consecutive shutouts in goal as the Sharks threaten the top spot of the PacWest Conference standings. Zielinski and the Sharks shutout Dominican 1-0 on Tuesday, Holy Names 1-0 on Thursday, and Academy of Art 2-0 on Sunday. He recorded a total of 17 saves in the three contests to help lead the Sharks on a four-game winning streak. Zielinski moved all the way up to sixth all-time for career shutouts in the PacWest as he recorded his 10th, 11th and 12th all in one busy week.
Zielinsky leads the PacWest Conference and is seventh in Division II in shutouts with seven, leads the conference and is 43rd in total saves with 59, leads the PacWest and is 26th in saves per game with 4.92, is second in the conference and 12th nationally with a .831 save percentage, and is third in the PacWest and 53rd in Division II with a .995 goals against average.
Along side Zielinsky with weekly honors is Point Loma's Parker Scalzo as the PacWest Men's Soccer Player of the Week.
The Sharks close out their Northern California road trip at Fresno Pacific on Tuesday. Kickoff time is set for 4:30 p.m. HST (7:30 p.m. PDT).
