Robyn Kaltenbrunn led HPU to a women's team victory and sophomore
Jona Bodirsky paced the HPU men as the Sharks took top honors across the board at the 2021 Spring Hawai'i Hilo Invitational on Friday evening at the Naniloa Golf Course.
The Sharks got a bit of revenge on the women's side in beating UH Hilo 24-32 on its home course after suffering the same fate last week.
In the men's race that started the meet, Bodirsky of Rettingheim, Germany, covered the 5-kilometer course in 16:20.7 to win by almost a minute-and-a half over teammate junior
David Rutto of Eldoret, Kenya who covered the course in 18:14.8. Chaminade's Owen Daugherty was third with a time of 18:33.2. HPU sophomore
Troy Oshimo of Honolulu/Kalani was fourth in 19:19.1, with freshman
Kuane Whitt of Mount Gilead, Ohio/Mansfield Christian fifth in 19:24.8 and freshman
Kent Glover of Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville sixth in 21:00.4.
The Sharks scored 15 points, while the Silverswords did not have enough racers for a team score.
Kaltenbrunn, of Johannesburg, South Africa, took the women's title by covering the 5k course in 21:30.3, about a minute ahead of teammate junior Karen Corona Perez of Ocracoke, N.C./Ocracoke who clocked a 22:27.7. Chaminade's Olivia Mariucci was third in 22:31.5, with UH Hilo's Emma Heidelmeier fourth in 22:52.2.

McKay Guckenberg of Eureka, Mont./Lincoln County turned in a sixth place finish in 23:36.7, while junior
Maggie Meeds of Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage, was eighth in 23:52.7, sophomore Zamira Broadhust-Hall of Newark, N.J./Newark Tech 10th in 24:51.3 and freshman
Alyssa D'Arpa of North Potomac, Md./Wooton 11th in 24:59.8
The teams take a weekend off before completing the abbreviated, Covid moved spring season on Saturday, February 27th at 7:45 a.m. with the HPU PacWest Invitational on the HPU Loa Campus.
