HONOLULU – The Hawai'i Pacific University women and Hawai'i Hilo played 90 minutes in strong wind and intermittent rain showers on Sunday before settling for a scoreless tie in PacWest Conference Hawai'i play at St. Louis Field.
The Sharks (0-1-1, 0-1-1) collected their first draw of the season, while the Vulcans (0-0-2) received their second draw of the season. Because of the back-to-back games for UH Hilo in the Covid created, shortened spring season, no overtime was played.
The wind and sometimes heavy rain played tricks on both teams. However, it was UH Hilo that fired 14 shots against HPU freshman goalkeeper
Madi DePhillips of Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep. DePhillips stopped all five shots on goal and would have gotten a shutout but had to leave the game when she was bowled over by UH Hilo's Brenna Rill in the final minute of the game.
HPU managed just three shots – all with the wind in the second half – with UHH keeper Viviana Poli collecting a save on the only shot on goal.
The Sharks are in action again next Sunday afternoon when they visit Chaminade. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. at St. Louis Field.
