HONOLULU – The Hawai'i Pacific University women got a penalty kick goal from
Kayli Ann Yoshioka in the 78th minute to propel HPU to a 1-1 tie with cross-town rival Chaminade in PacWest Conference Hawai'i play on Sunday afternoon at St. Louis Field.
The Sharks (0-1-2) posted their second draw of the season, the same as the Silverswords (1-0-2).
The Swords had a 1-0 lead thanks to a Randi Fontes goal in the 40th minute.
But the Sharks fought back and after taking a foul in the box to earn the penalty, Yoshioka, a sophomore from Honolulu/Kaiser, drilled the ball into the net to knot the score at 1-1.
The teams agreed to play just the 90 minutes and did not go into overtime.
Both teams had six shots on goal, with the Swords totaling nine shots and the Sharks eight.
HPU junior goalkeeper
Marissa Froio of Semi Valley, Calif./Royal, recorded five saves and allowed the one. CUH keeper Naomi Takata also notched five saves with the one score.
HPU has one remaining contest in the Covid caused spring season. Next Sunday, the Sharks play host to Hawai'i Hilo. The game kicks off at 2 p.m. at St. Louis Field.
