HAYWARD, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men's soccer team fell hard in its first game on the mainland this season as Humboldt State rolled to a 4-0 victory on Friday night in non-conference play at Cal State East Bay's Pioneer Field.
 
The Lumberjacks (3-0) scored twice in each half to down the Sharks (0-2).
 
The story of contest was the play of the Jacks defense, who held the Sharks to just five shots and none on goal.
 
Humboldt State got a goal and an assist by both Devin Hauenstein and Edgar Castaneda, while Marco Silveira and Daniel Adeyeye both acquired two assists in the contest.
 
The Jacks got on the board in the 20th minute when Dylan Tovani scored off a double assist from Adeyeye and Hauenstein for the 1-0 lead.
 
Then 11 minutes later, HSU upped the score on Hauenstein's goal assisted by Castaneda and Silveira for a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute.
 
The scoring continued in after halftime as Castaneda flipped the board on a pass from Nicolas Herrera-Land in the 55th minute.
 
The Lumberjack assault added a final goal in the 77th minute when Alejandro Lopez found the back of the net after a feed from Silveira and Adeyeye.
 
Humboldt State blasted 21 shots at senior goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead, who notched seven saves with the four goals allowed.
 
HSU's Adrian Gallardo put up a totally clean sheet in goal, recording the shutout while not recording a save.
 
The Sharks have one more non-conference contest when they meet Cal State East Bay on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. (11:30 a.m. PDT) at Pioneer Field.
