DENVER – Hawai'i Pacific University opened a non-conference road trip to the Mile High City with a 3-1 loss to Metropolitan State University Denver on Thursday evening at The Assembly Athletic Complex.
The Sharks (1-3) allowed a go-ahead goal just before halftime and another just after the start of the second half to keep the Roadrunners (2-0-2) unbeaten.
MSUD opened the scoring in the fifth minute on Annie Rolf's goal after a feed from Katy Harris.
The Sharks knotted the contest just 10 minutes later when freshman
Soraya Santos of Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City fed senior
Jacey Iwane of Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua. Iwane sent the ball into the net for her first goal of the season.
But the Roadrunners got the go-ahead goal in the 40th minute when Rolf got the assist when Kailey Maness scored to put MSU Denver up 2-1.
After the half, the Roadrunner posted their final goal just five minutes into the second frame as Katy Coats scored following an MSUD corner kick giving the Runners a 3-1 lead in the 50th minute.

Marissa Froio of Simi Valley, Calif./Royal tallied eight saves in playing all 90 minutes. HPU also recorded a team save.
HPU launched six shots against the Roadrunners, as Kayla Caballero recorded two saves along with the goal allowed in 61 minutes for the win. Kylie Bach picked up a save in 29 minutes, and there was one team save.
The Sharks stay in Denver for their second game of the trip on Sunday, when they travel across town to face Regis. The match kicks off at 9 a.m. HST (1 p.m. MDT) at the Regis Match Pitch.
