HONOLULU – Chaminade scored a free-kick goal in the first four minutes of the second half to defeat Hawai'i Pacific University 1-0 in a non-conference women's soccer contest Saturday at St. Louis Field.
The Sharks (1-5) dropped their fifth straight regular season contest, while the Silverswords (2-2) chalked up their second win of the season.
After the cross-town rivals played the first 45 minutes to a 0-0 draw, the Swords capitalized on the first HPU foul of the second half.
Taking a direct free kick from 30 yards out, the Swords Caili Cain sent the ball curling past the outstretched arms of Sharks goalkeeper
Madi DePhillips into the left corner of the net for the game's only score.
The goal was the only blemish on the sheet of DePhillips, a sophomore from Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep, who recorded five saves while facing 13 Chaminade shots.
Swords goalkeeper Naomi Takata posted a shutout with four saves against nine HPU shots.
HPU is idle until next Saturday when the Sharks open PacWest Conference play by hosting Azusa Pacific. The match will be played on Field 5 of the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park and starts at 12:30 p.m.
