Sharks Volleyball Falls to Sea Lions, 3-0

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Pacific University volleyball team battled against the Point Loma Nazarene University for another Pacwest conference contest, Thursday night in the Shark Tank. The sharks gave a late scare, however the Sea Lions took the victory 3-0.

The Sharks (2-16, 2-10 Pacwest) will look to bounce back on Saturday, while the Sea Lions (15-7, 10-3) win their second in a row.

Sharks jumped out to an aggressive start as they took an 8-4 lead. However, the Sea Lions found a spark after a timeout, eventually grabbing the lead at 22-18. PLNU closed out the first set 25-19.

It seems like the late momentum from the first set continued into the second set as the Sea Lions jumped out to a 13-7 lead. From there, PLNU would go on a 12-5 run, taking the second set 25-12.

With their backs against the wall, the Sharks looked to attack. And attack they did, as they found themselves up 12-7, forcing an early Sea Lions timeout. The brief pause was great for Point Loma as they went on a 4-0 run. Although HPU threatened to take the third set, the power from PLNU was too much as they closed the set and the game, 25-20.

Senior middle blocker Demi Winters led the Sharks in kills with eight. Sophomore setter Pua Beazley passed her way to 18 assists. Freshman setter Morgan Bodde saw the floor tonight for the first time since August, recording her first seven assists in the season.

Hawaii Pacific University will be back in a couple of days as they will be hosting Concordia University Irvine on Saturday, October 22. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in the Shark Tank.
