Sharks Soccer Snaps Win Streak with 5-1 Loss to Azusa

AZUSA, Calif. - The Hawaii Pacific University, men's soccer team lost 5-1 to Azusa Pacific Wednesday night at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

The Sharks (6-5-2, 4-3-0 PacWest) had their three-game win streak snapped by the Cougars (5-7-3, 3-2-2).

It was a tight game through the first twenty minutes as the Cougars took an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 10th minute. HPU responded in the 20th minute of their own, as graduate Austin Stafford stuffed one in the back of the net.

Unfortunately, that was all for the Sharks as the Cougars jumped at the chance in the 29th minute to take a 2-1 lead into the half. Out of the gates of the second half, APU started to find their stride and scored in the first two minutes. They followed it up in the 56th with another, extending the lead 4-1. Azusa put the final nail in the coffin in the 87th with a final goal and a 5-1 win.

Stafford scored his fourth goal of the season in the loss, while goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski had an uncharacteristic game allowing five goals but six saves too.

The Sharks continue their conference road trip with a matchup in San Diego with Point Loma on Saturday at 11 a.m. HT>
