Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sharks Bested by Cougars 2-0

Azusa, Calif. - The Hawaii Pacific University women's soccer team visited Azusa Pacific University Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-0.

The Sharks (3-7-3, 2-4-1 PacWest) will look to find their first win on the road trip on Saturday, while the Cougars (7-3-4, 4-1-2 PacWest) have won three straight.

HPU were playing a lot of defense throughout the first half, but it was a defense that would not let a goal past them. The Sharks found their first attacking opportunity in the 35th minute, from there on out, they continued to pressure the Cougars until the first half whistle blew. Neither side found a goal as the score remained 0-0.

It was in the 62nd minute when junior goalkeeper Madi DePhillips made a save, however the ball bounced back out towards an attacking APU player, and DePhillips was unable to make a second save. The Sharks found themselves in a 1-0 deficit as they looked for an equalizer, but could not. A penalty kick in the 87th minute for the Cougars sealed the fate for the Sharks as they fell 2-0.

DePhillips added nine more saves to her total, she now has 19 saves so far on the road trip.

The Sharks are back in action on Saturday, October 29 as they travel to San Diego to take on Point Loma Nazarene University with kickoff set for 8:30 a.m. HST.
