Women's Soccer Drops Game to Hilo 2-1

WAIPAHU - The Hawaii Pacific University women's soccer team competed against the visiting University of Hawaii Hilo Vulcans this afternoon, falling 2-1. The Sharks now sit at a 2-4-3 (1-1-1 Pacwest) record.

Hawaii Hilo found the back of the net early, taking a 1-0 lead four and a half minutes into the game. Although a few opportunities presented themselves, HPU could not find an equalizer as they entered halftime, still trailing.

The Sharks were determined to tie the game up in the second half. It would be up to the senior Jacey Iwane, who put away her first goal of the season, to knot the game up at 1-1. From there, the graduate student goalie Sophia Garrido did not give the Vulcans a free net to regain the lead.

With the final 10 minutes approaching, it looked like the game would end just like the first meeting between these two teams, a draw. However, some fancy footwork led to a go-ahead goal for UHH in the 80th minute. With their backs against the wall, HPU could not produce another goal as they fell 2-1.

Garrido was a brick wall as she added eight saves to her total. Meanwhile, Iwane joined eight of her teammates, tied for second on the team with one goal each.

The Sharks will be back home next week on Saturday, October 15, against Holy Names University Hawks, with kickoff slated for 4.30 p.m.
