HONOLULU – The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team routed SAGU American Indian College 91-65 in their first live-action exhibition of the season, Wednesday night at the Shark Tank.
The Sharks got the chance to start building the chemistry before this weekend's GNAC/PacWest Challenge kicks off, with transfer Marquise Moore putting on a display with 24 points, one rebound, and four steals.
HPU led this contest wire-to-wire, as the Sharks jumped out to an early 10-point lead 3 minutes in and never took their foot off the gas. Hawaii dominated this game, outscoring the opponent in the paint by 20 points.
The Sharks had four players in double-figures. Moore led the way with his 24, while transfer
Jalen Chandler shot an incredibly efficient 8-for-10 from the field, finishing with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Another new face to the squad,
Mason Landdeck put up 14 points his first time in a Sharks uniform, dropping in three 3-pointers; he also grabbed five rebounds and four steals. The freshman
Melo Sanchez got his minutes leading the team with 24, picked up 10 points, and dished out three assists.
The Sharks are locked in and ready to begin regular season play, with their first test being Alaska Fairbanks on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Shark Tank.
Friday and Saturday will also feature Chaminade taking on the Alaska-based teams before the main event. Tickets can be found under the tickets portion of the website or through the link on the schedule.
