Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sharks Fall 79-55 to Rainbow Warriors in La'ie

LA'IE - The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team fell in an exhibition against UH Manoa 79-55 Saturday afternoon inside the Cannon Activities Center..

The Sharks (2-0) designated the game as an exhibition and does not count toward their record, while the contest does count for the Rainbow Warriors, who improved to (3-1).

HPU struggled to find their groove in the first half as the 'Bows jumped out and built a 16-point lead midway through the period. As both teams settled in the Sharks, found their stride and managed to keep the lead to 14 at the half.

The halftime talk proved effective to the start of the second period as HPU went on a 6-0 and forced a timeout. However, UH answered back with a run of their own and extended the lead to 19. The Sharks wouldn't be able to overcome the deficit down the stretch falling 79-55.

Although the Sharks were outplayed they limited their turnovers tying a season low tento the Rainbow Warriors 11. However, HPU was outshot .327 to .586.

Highlighting the Sharks was senior forward Trey Chapman who was HPU's only player in double-figures with 10 points and three assists. Junior guard Blake Dearborn put up six points in his first action of the season after Mason Landdeck (injured) and Melo Sanchez (fouled out)

The Sharks are back in action next week as they play host to their Hoops in Hawaii Thanksgiving Classic. The action kicks off with HPU taking on Lincoln University at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
