Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sharks Bested 69-60 by the Silverswords

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team hosted their first PacWest conference game against the University of Chaminade Tuesday night in the Shark Tank. A close match would go the way of CUH, as HPU fell 69-60.

The Sharks (3-2) look to break their cold streak on Thursday, while the Silverswords (3-2) have won back-to-back games.

Like he has done in a lot of the games already this season, freshman Melo Sanchez opened up the scoring for both teams, this time with a layup. The game was tight, as Hawaii Pacific was leading 28-23 with six minutes to go. But then, Chaminade jumped ahead with a 10-0 run. After that, the game slowed down, with HPU hitting three free-throws before the first half came to a close, with the Sharks trailing 33-31.

Hawaii Pacific entered the second half wanting to get back in the lead, sophomore Mason Landdeck provided that opportunity, hitting back-to-back threes. This sparked a 10-0 HPU run, putting them up 41-35. From there, both teams battled, with several lead changes. It was not until there were seven minutes to go in the half, when the Silverswords exploded for a 9-0 run, giving them a 61-54 lead. HPU got back within three points, but a 6-0 CUH run closed the door on any Hawaii Pacific comeback, as the Sharks fell 69-60.

Sanchez and Landdeck led the way in scoring, with 14 and 10 points a piece.

Senior Jalen Chandler and junior Maj Dusanic led the team in rebounds, as they each grabbed eight.

The Sharks will host the University of Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans Thursday, December 1, for another PacWest conference matchup. This game is set to start around 6:30 p.m. HT inside the Shark Tank
