3/21/2022 4:07:00 PM

IRVINE, Calif. – For the second time this season, Hawai'i Pacific University's Jordi Walder is the PacWest Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, selected by the conference office for his strong play last week in California.

Walder, a junior from Hagen, Germany, became the first player to receive Player of the Week twice this season after he beat three nationally-ranked players in three consecutive days last week. He started by beating No. 17 Sebastian Herrera of Biola in two tiebreakers, 7-6(6), 7-6(7) in what was his closest match all season up to that point. The following day, he took out Azusa Pacific's No. 20 Ryan Nuno, who became just the third player to have taken a set off Walder this season. Walder improved to 3-0 in deciding sets this season with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win. He kept the streak of wins over nationally-ranked opponents going by beating 27th ranked Tom Zeuch of Indianapolis 7-5, 6-4 as he improved to 9-0 on the year.

Walder is ranked No. 3 in the nation in the latest ITA Division II Men's computerized singles rankings. In doubles, Walder partnered with Jan Pleva and the duo won two of their three sets last week at No. 1 doubles. The pairing now has a 7-2 record.

Walder was the first student-athlete to win the honor this season back on Feb. 14.

Walder is joined in the weekly honor by Biola's Colbeyshae Emery as the PacWest Women's Player of the Week.

The No. 8 Sharks (10-0) are idle this week and will play again of Saturday, April 2 against Hawai'i Hilo at the updated UH Hilo Tennis Courts.
