SURPRISE, Ariz. — Hawai'i Pacific's men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up competition at the PacWest Championships, with the women earning a third-place finish and the men placing fourth following hard-fought matches.
On the women's side, the Sharks secured a 4-2 victory over Fresno Pacific to claim third place, using a strong showing in singles play to power the win.
After Fresno Pacific took the doubles point, Hawai'i Pacific responded with four singles victories. Evi Roobol battled through a three-set match at No. 1 singles to earn a key point, while Tereza Ohnoutkova added a straight-set win at No. 2. Annika Harkovirta and Rosa Viller Moller also delivered in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, helping the Sharks clinch the match.
The win capped a strong postseason performance for HPU, as the Sharks finished third in the conference.
On the men's side, Hawai'i Pacific faced Point Loma in the third-place match, ultimately falling 4-0 in a competitive contest.
The Sharks showed early fight in doubles play, earning wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles behind the teams of Mile Matic and Ethan Terry, and Adam Vasir and Matteo Perrod. However, Point Loma secured the doubles point with a win at the top spot.
In singles, HPU battled across the lineup, with multiple matches extending into tight sets, including a three-set battle at No. 3 singles from Ethan Terry. Despite the effort, Point Loma was able to close out the match and secure third place.
The Sharks conclude the PacWest Championships with the women earning a podium finish and the men finishing fourth after a competitive showing throughout the tournament.
