TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific men's tennis team climbed back up to fourth in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Men's Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Sharks (14-1) have played an all Division II slate this year and hold a 68.724 rating in fourth, despite last week's victories over now No. 3 Barry (Fla.) (13-5) with a rating of 70.871 and No. 2 Saint Leo (Fla.) (16-4) with a 72.968 rating. HPU is ahead of North Georgia (13-3) in fifth with a 55.853 rating. Columbus State (Ga.) (14-1) remains on top with a rating of 80.319.
HPU continues to have two singles players and two doubles teams ranked nationally this week.
Jordi Walder remains number two nationally in singles, with
Robin Sanz up to No. 23. The pair of
Jan Pleva and Walder vaulted to fifth in doubles, and Sanz and
Jakub Beran moves up to 40th.
After the first five teams, Embry-Riddle (Fla.) (10-3) is down to sixth with a 53.443 rating, Valdosta State (Ga.) (11-4) is seventh at 50.589, Wayne State (Mich.) (15-3) is eighth at 49.323, Lynn (Fla.) (7-2) is ninth at 47.183, and West Florida (14-6) is 10th at 46.283.
In addition to HPU, the PacWest Conference is represented in the poll by Azusa Pacific at 16, Biola at 43, and Hawai'i Hilo at 44. In the extended rankings, Metro State Denver is 61st, Concordia Irvine is 63rd, and Point Loma is 67th.
The Sharks are the top seed in the PacWest Conference Championships this week in Surprise, Ariz., starting against Fresno Pacific on Thursday. The semifinals are Friday and the championship match is set for Saturday. All matches begin at 6 a.m. HST (9 a.m. MST).
