Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

HPU's 12 Three-Pointers not Enough as they Fall 86-81 to Biola

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team looked to keep up this new found momentum in their matchup against Biola University Saturday afternoon in the Shark Tank. In a game that saw 20 lead changes, unfortunately, HPU fell to BU 86-81.

The Sharks (5-11, 1-7 PacWest) have one more game in their homestand, while the Eagles (11-5, 6-3 PacWest) are on a 4-game win streak.

Senior Jalen Chandler knocked down a three-pointer to get Hawaii Pacific on the board, fellow senior Marquis Moore followed up with his own a minute later. HPU were trailing 8-6 when they broke out on a 10-2 run to give them the lead. However, Biola bounced back and the two teams battled it out, tying each other multiple times. The Eagles hit the final basket of the half to tie the game up at 38 all going into the lockers.

For a game that saw 20 lead changes, it was only fitting that it would come down to the final minutes. The Sharks found themselves trailing 75-73 with two minutes to go. Unfortunately, the possessions just did not go the way of Hawaii Pacific, meanwhile, the Eagles continued to build their lead. As the buzzer sounded, HPU fell to BU 86-81.

Moore led the Sharks in the scoring department with 23 points, he also dished out four assists.

Freshman Melo Sanchez followed just behind him with 19 points, while Chandler had 13.

Senior Trey Chapman led the team in rebounds with six to go with his 12 points.

Meanwhile, sophomore Mason Landdeck finished with a team leading five assists and 11 points.

The Sharks will wrap up their homestand on Wednesday, January 14, against the Azusa Pacific University Cougars. Tip-off is set for around 6:30 p.m. HT inside the Shark Tank.
