Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls to Dominican 89-74

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team visited the Dominican University of California Sunday afternoon inside of the Conlan Center. The second half got away from HPU as they fell 89-74 to DOM.

The Sharks (7-13, 3-9 PacWest) have one final game in California against Fresno Pacific, while the Penguins (11-11, 7-8 PacWest) will start a three week road trip in February.

Senior Jalen Chandler, as he did a couple of games ago, opened up the scoring for Hawaii Pacific with a dunk. Senior Marquis Moore followed in suit by knocking down a long ball. However, it was the Penguins who held control for most of the first half, keeping a 19-13 lead with nine minutes to go. But then, HPU turned on the jets, going on a 21-9 run to flip the scoreline in their favor, 34-28. The Penguins would end the half on a 6-0 run, so when it was all said and done, the two teams were knotted at 34-34.

Unfortunately for the Sharks, they never really had a say in the second half. A 20-4 explosion in favor of the Penguins put HPU in a tough spot. Hawaii Pacific were never able to get back within double-digits, as they fell to Dominican, 89-74.

Chandler and Moore led the Sharks in scoring with 17 a piece, they combined for six three-pointers.

Sophomore Mason Landdeck followed behind with 11 points, meanwhile, senior Elijah Martinez went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc for nine points.

Finally, junior Maj Dusanic led the team in rebounds, bringing in seven.

The Sharks will now head to Fresno, California, to take on the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds for a PacWest conference matchup. Their match is set for Tuesday, January 31, with tip-off slated for around 7:30 PST inside of the Special Events Center.
